Gainesboro FD Making Residents Aware Minor Natural Gas Leak Being Addressed By Gas Company

Gainesboro Fire Department wants residents to be aware that the natural gas smell downtown is being addressed by the gas company.

Assistant Chief Isaac Davis there have been three reported leaks near the jail and on Montpellier Avenue.

“There’s no imminent danger as of right now, what it is is the line is underneath the road on the outside,” Davis said. “So you may occasionally get the rotten egg smell, the odorant they’ve put in the gas so you can smell it.”

Davis said the gas company is doing its best to get the leaks taken care of. He said the company is still trying to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.

Davis said the company was facing an issue where they were working to let the area “air out” and go back to find the leak. He said it’s not a constant smell, it can build up and go away.

Davis said even if it is in one of the currently-affected areas, residents should still call to report the smell.
