Gainesboro Establishes Airbnb, Vacation Rental Guidelines

Town of Gainesboro has established its first ordinance regarding Airbnb’s and other vacation rentals.

Alderwoman Nancy Pruett said as the popularity of rentals grew both in the county and city limits, the board of aldermen wanted to establish more guidelines.

“So this is brand new for us and our little town,” Pruett said. “What we did is we had the historical planning committee, they are the ones working on this, the preservation.”

Pruett said the committee based their recommendations on the town of Gordonsville’s ordinance. Pruett said the ordinance includes requirements for length of stay, parking, and requirements for the owners.

Pruett said the tourism industry is growing and more are becoming interested in visiting Jackson County and Gainesboro itself. She said this ordinance will help make sure the tax dollars coming in from visitors are serving the town the best way possible.

“It’s really going to help our tax base and get people to come in and stay,” Pruett said. “Anybody that comes in, that’s our tax dollars, that’s free money. We’re getting a lot of people interested in coming to build and in our town square.”
