Gainesboro Aldermen agreed to enter into a contract with Tennessee Tech Thursday night for the development of a new stormwater management plan.
The project will be paid for by a new $500,000 overflow stormwater grant from the TDEC. Consulting Engineer Nathaniel Green said the plan will leave enough money behind for much needed stormwater resources in the city.
“A big part of this one is not only the aspect of the $100,000 for them to make the study, but also the additional funding over that, say close to $400,000 to be able to put in some new culverts,” Green said.
Green said the plan will take about two years to complete. Aldermen approved the contract on the condition that the grant completely covers the contract with Tech.
“I’ve been a part of studies and projects that had other universities involved,” Green said. “And Tennessee Tech has been extremely reasonable in their pricing structure and, you know, what they’ve got going on.”
Green said the contract was delayed due to students working on the project who needed to be replaced after graduation.
Alderman Travis Agee said the city’s current storm system needs an upgrade.
“We’ve virtually got nothing up here,” Agee said.
In other business, the aldermen approved the opening of two new certificates of deposit to earn better interest rates on the city’s unused funds.
