Gainesboro Approves Fire Training

The Town of Gainesboro approved funding for online training for its fire department Thursday night.

Isaac Davis with the Gainesboro Fire Department said the new training source will help the department remain up-to-date with training.

“We got dinged pretty hard on training,” Davis said. “They offer a ridiculous amount of what we have to have, or what we’re supposed to have, through ISO (Insurance Services Office). I’m thinking this will help us bring those points up in three or four years. I can run a report and say we’ve had this many hours of training.”

The ISO creates ratings for fire departments and their surrounding communities. A fire department’s rating can have a positive or negative effect on homeowner’s insurance ratings.

Davis said that although a portion of the training is online, the Gainesboro Fire Department will continue to partner with Jackson County to offer hands on training.

“We’ll still be doing the hands on stuff here,” Davis said. “But it’s a whole lot better training and more stuff we could do for what  we’re supposed to be doing.”

The Board of Alderman voted unanimously to fund the $1,400 yearly expense through Target Solutions, an online training resource specializing in emergency management.
