Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster participated in his first meeting since being elected to the Association of County Mayors Board.
Foster said a big topic of concern he discussed with state leaders was Governor Bill Lee’s new school funding formula.
“Of course our interest is in addition to that funding is where is that money coming from and things like that, and what’s going to be the responsibility of the county out in the future,” Foster said. “That was one of the largest topics.”
Foster said as a group of mayors, a large portion of the public was represented, and state leaders listened to local concerns. Foster said he feels like that the conversations were beneficial.
“They know that we know the concerns of the community, and they’re listening,” Foster said. “Plus we just have a lot of great officials with our governor, house and senate.”
Foster said even some Cumberland County Commissioners participated in the capitol hill visit. Foster said commission members met with State Senators Paul Bailey and Cameron Sexton regarding education funding.
