The Jackson County School System is taking advantage of a state program to add teaching endorsements for high need positions.
Director of Schools Kristy Brown said the system has five accepted candidates getting either ESL, special education or secondary math added onto their teaching license. Brown said this program is free, removing cost barriers around testing and course work.
“Getting current teachers who are already licensed to add those endorsements will help out districts, especially small districts,” Brown said. “We’re limited in the number of teachers that we have in the first place.”
Brown said teachers from Jackson County are being placed in classes at universities across the state, like TSU and ETSU. Brown said some teachers could have their endorsements by this fall, or at the latest being ready in the spring.
