The Fentress County Commission will consider proposals for the Tennessee Housing Development Agency’s (THDA) Home Grant projects Monday.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the projects help low-income individuals repair their homes.
“We have done, I think this will be the sixth one that we have done this year. And it’s good to make that many available to people whose homes are rundown,” Johnson said. “And they can’t afford repairs. They will put in like 30 or 40 and go through and pick one. But it seems like a major need to meet and that’s how we do that.”
Johnson said if the commission approves the proposals a bid process will start soon after.
“And if you make the criteria, your house gets nominated you might say. And then we open bids for contractors, get our contractors and that’s how we operate there,” Johnson said. “The lowest bidder usually gets the bid.”
Johnson said the THDA grant should cover the expenses of the house repairs.
“I think they do maybe up to possibly $45,000 for each house. I am thinking what that is right around in the 40 thousands. Some are a lot less, but some can go over that.”
Johnson said he hopes to support 5 to 6 additional THDA Home projects in 2020.
The Fentress County Commission meets Monday, May 20.
