Fentress County hoping to resume work on its kayak park project this spring.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said that they had to put the project on pause after bids came back way over budget.
“Last year everything got so expensive due to your building materials and such that it actually came in a lot over how much the grant was for,” Johnson said. “So we had to put that off until this spring to get more bids and hopefully it will go back into the area we had budgeted for. So that’s what we’re kind of waiting on right now.”
Johnson said that when the park eventually is completed, it will have a paved parking lot, kayak storage facilities, and a convenient spot to get in and out of the water. He said it will be located on county property in the Alvin C. York State Park.
