Fentress County Seeking Grant Funding For New Ambulance

Fentress County will apply for a grant to help purchase and equip a new ambulance.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the $140,000 vehicle replaces an older ambulance that has suffered some wear and tear.

“We were going to just have a remount,” Johnson said. “But considering that we’re having to go 70 to 80 miles for an ambulance trip, we decided to forgo the remount and just purchase the ambulance.”

The Fentress County Commission voted to apply for the USDA Persistent Poverty Grant during Monday night’s meeting.

With Jamestown Regional Medical Center still closed, Fentress County EMS must transport patients as far away as Cookeville and Crossville. Johnson said it made more sense to purchase a new ambulance rather than spending additional money for repairs.

The grant would provide an estimated $50,000 towards the total cost of the ambulance. The funding would also cover the cost for medical equipment.
