Fentress County citizens will not see a property tax-rate increase in the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the Commission passed the budget during a special called meeting Monday.
“We are very tight with the tax-payers’ money and we have been for the last several years. So I believe the tax-payers appreciate that very much,” Johnson said. “With that being said, we did set the tax rate at $1.91 again this year, so we are going to try it again at a $1.91 and see how things work out in the year.”
Johnson said he hopes the budget will serve the community well.
“Any county is always in the need of more revenue because you have different things that go on throughout the year,” Johnson said. “You have emergency things come up, just like we have had several emergency things like the recycling plant burnt down.”
Johnson said the budget allots some $140,000 for a new ambulance.
“You’ve got your wear and tear, then you also have double your meds a lot of the time. So with the hospital being closed,” Johnson said. “You have to look at it from a different perspective of things sometimes. So they voted to buy a new ambulance last night.”
The budget also gives a 30-cent raise to all county employees.
