Fentress County Historical Society has begun looking for a central location.
Mary Robbins is the third Vice President of the Fentress County Historical Society.
“We are raising funds and searching for a home for the society. We have an archive at Allardt in the old school building, we have a museum, and then we have the history and genealogy holdings at the Fentress County Public Library,” Robbins said. “And we have been growing in all those areas and we need to find a home where we can bring all of that together.”
Instead of having the historical documents all over the county, Robbins said the society wants one central place for research, history and genealogy.
The Historical Society started this project after Helen Linderhull left the society money in her will, Robbins said. The inheritance serves as a starting point for fundraising, Robbins said.
“So we are using her bequest as a foundation,” Robbins said. “And we are building on that with fundraising, donations and memberships.”
The Fentress County Historical Society does not know what part of Fentress County the building will be, Robbins said. The building depends on funding and availability, Robbins said.
“We are looking to either build or buy an existing building,” Robbins said. “And we have not determined where the location would be.”
Fentress County Historical Society will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Tuesday, May 22. The society will celebrate the anniversary with a Picnic at the Park in Jamestown.
