Fentress County Fire Department Finishes Fire Truck Replacements

Fentress County Fire Department has completed the process to replace of all four fire trucks in its fleet.

Chief Larry Cooper said the final replacement was purchased for some $60,000 and picked up just last week.

“The fleet we’ve got is really old and it’s really expensive to replace these trucks and we were in much need of some smaller trucks,” Cooper said. “Overton County had bought a bunch of smaller trucks for their department so we’ve been trying to look for some smaller trucks like that. They’re hardly new, they’ve got some years on them, but they’re new to us so that’s a good thing.”

Cooper said the trucks will be stationed at each firehouse in the county. He said the other three had already purchased using some $156,000 of ARP funding and put into rotation.

Cooper said the county had approved the purchases a few years ago, but had struggled to find the right vehicles. He said he had spent around six months to find and purchase this last vehicle.

“We’re real pleased to be able to get this done,” Cooper said. “Having a more updated fleet it only going to make it safer for our community.”
