Fentress Chamber Expands Scarecrow Contest Across County

It is time to enter the newly expanded Fentress County Scarecrow Contest.

Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Membership Director Seth Vaughn said with businesses growing outside of downtown Jamestown, anyone can enter across the county. However, Vaughn said Jamestown has already taken the lead and got its scarecrow up.

“There are a couple of scarecrows already up,” Vaughn said. “One is in Mark Twain Park and it looks really good, that is going to be on behalf of the city of Jamestown. So we’re excited to see that one up and there’s a couple more in the works. There’s not many up at this point but there will be in the next couple of weeks.”

Vaughn said the more people who participate the better the look it gives to the area with fall and Halloween events around the corner. He said these events usually bring in people from around the region who get to see who went above and beyond on their entry.

“So some of them go all out and there’s not too many rules,” Vaughn said. “The only rule is that all participants must have their entries up by October 28 and they must stay up until November 12. So on November 12 they will be judged and we will announce the winners on November 15.”

Vaughn said that in case anyone worries that the judging might not be fair, he said there is an independent panel of judges making the selections. He said there will be three entries picked with prizes from local businesses.

“To enter people can give us a call here at 931-879-9948, that is the chamber’s phone number,” Vaughn said. “Or they can contact us by email and that is seth@jamestowntn.org, I would be more than glad to send an entry form and pick up the entry form and entry fee as well.”

Vaughn said it costs $20 to enter and entrants can put their scarecrow up at any time.
