Fentress BOE Asking For Community Input Leading Up To New Superintendent Vote

The Fentress Board of Education will select a new superintendent at its meeting on Monday night.

Co-Chairman Gary Peters said that they are now asking for public input before the vote on Monday.

“And since they’ve done away with being able to elect the superintendent of schools,” Peters said. “I think it’s very important to get the parents, the community leaders, and even the staff of the schools the principals, assistant principals, and teachers to get involved. And that’s what we did. We’ve been very transparent about this.”

Peters said the board enlisted the Tennessee School Boards Association in June to help them find a list of 10 candidates. He said that it has spent the past three weeks in interviews and has narrowed it down to two candidates: Kristi Hall and Jason Tompkins.

Peters said that this will be a big deal for those in Fentress County. He said that it’s been some 15 years since they’ve last had to select a new superintendent.

“I’m hoping that whoever the new director of schools will be will come in and sort of talk with and get with the superintendent presently and learn some things before he goes out. And he’s been very open about that stand said ‘I’ll help any way I can’ and I’m sure he will make it a smooth transition come January 1st. I’m really excited about it, I know the school system is and I know people in the community are.”
