Fentress County set to replace more than 60 windows at the Fentress County courthouse.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the windows have had issues for quite some time. Johnson said the county has saved up funds for the last couple of years for the project.
“A lot of rain comes through and they are getting where they leak real bad,” Johnson said. “The screens are about gone out of them and we have a lot of wind that comes through around the areas where they have been in there for several years.”
Johnson said he expects the contractor to begin replacing a handful of windows within the next week. Johnson said the county has a deal in place with a contractor to do a few windows before committing to a deal for the overall project.
“They mentioned it to come see and let them set a couple of windows in and see if the building committee is happy with them,” Johnson said. “If they are happy with them then it will go on to the commission and then we would go on with the project.”
Johnson said he does not have a specific timeline for when he would like to see the project completed but he does want the project completed as soon as possible. Johnson said the courthouse would not have much of a different look as the windows would look similar to the current windows.
“We want to have them done by the first of the year but we probably won’t get to it at this time,” Johnson said. “But as soon as we get the contract signed which should be signed pretty soon because it has been sent back to the contractor.”
