Shoreline facility fee raises that would affect Center Hill Lake in Smithville are being postponed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Every five years the Nashville district increase fees for utilities and marine railways. Real Estate Management and Disposal Chief Myles Barton said that is being delayed for at least six months due to COVID.
“The cost of these items are based on a fair market value assessment,” Barton said. “And the timing of this five year update just kind of happened to fall within this pandemic, and Lt. Col. (Sonny) Avichal of the Nashville District decided to put a pause on that increase cost due to financial hardships.”
Utilities would have increased from $125 to $150 for the term of the license. Fees for marine railways would have increased from $725 to $825. Barton said implementation will be reevaluated later this year.
The district collects the fees from adjacent landowners for facilities in conjunction with private docks and moving permits. Center Hill Lake is the only body of water in the Upper Cumberland that falls under the Nashville District.
