Fall Creek Falls VFD Hosting Country Breakfast Fundraiser Saturday

Fall Creek Falls Volunteer Fire Department will host a country breakfast fundraiser this Saturday.

Chief Ernest Beard said that volunteer fire departments like his rely heavily on these donations. He said that you might think they can get enough from taxes, but there are many expenses to take care of.

“I mean at one time it was over $7,000 a year just to keep the fire department running,” Beard said. “And I didn’t have but $2,500 coming in. And the rest of it, we had to get out here and work for it to pay them bills.”

Beard said that fundraisers like these help them get necessary gear, or put a firefighter through training school. He said that the funds are particularly helpful with the price of fuel nowadays.

“If we have very many fires or many very runs in the truck our diesel gets pretty expensive,” “We spend sometimes anywhere from $68 to fill the trucks back up. But now it’s probably going to be something more like a hundred and something dollars to fill it up with the way the prices are going up.”

Beard said that the community should come out not only to support the department but also to socialize. He said that the department serves up one of the best all-you-can-eat breakfasts in Spencer with everything from eggs to bacon to pancakes.

“You know sit and talk to your neighbor and stuff,” Beard said. “And it’s a great meal everybody loves what we cook up. You definitely get your money’s worth. And if you go away hungry, it’s your own fault.”

Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tickets cost $8, with kids 10 and under for free.
