Fall Creek Falls Sees Some Trail Closures And Cabin

Some trails and fisherman cabins are closed at Fall Creek Falls following Wednesday’s rains and flooding events.

Park Manager Jacob Young said that one of the biggest closures comes from that in the Upper Loop trail.

“And that’s sad because the Lower Loop was closed due to a 2019 flood,” Young said. “A similar situation. It took out one of our swinging bridges that’s been there since the 70s at least. So it’s going to take a while to get both of those bridges rebuilt.”

Young said other closed trails include the Piney Mountain Biking trail and the Chinquapin trails. He said that several trails have also been severely affected by erosion. Young said that they plan to have the dam water back under control within the next couple of weeks. He said that they are doing their best to get every trail open within the next few days other than the Upper and Lower Loop trails, which could take several months.

Young said that the cabins affected are cabins 11 through 20, which saw some six to eight inches of water in the cabins from excess waters. He said they are working to find alternatives to those with reservations who are affected.

“We’re actively calling folks to try to move them around and accommodate them if they were affected by it,” Young said. “We do have some folks who were all in some of the Back Country sites. Back Country Site 3 is affected by the Upper Loop closure and we’re having to call and cancel, those folks are having to find some other places to go. So just bear with us in that process, we’ll take care of you as best as we possibly can. And for the folks who are wanting to come out for the fall, we just want to let everybody know we are open. You can still come out here and have a good time, and we want you to do that.”
