Fall Creek Falls Celebrating Appalachian Culture Through Arts And Preservation Day

Fall Creek Falls is celebrating Appalachian culture through an Arts and Preservation day this Saturday.

Park Curator Tommy Solomon said that the event will showcase blacksmithing, chair canning, log hewing, and bluegrass music. He said that the celebration will also feature classes from local craftsmen and artists.

“Preserving culture is of the utmost importance,” Solomon said. “Culture and its heritage reflect and shape values, beliefs, aspirations, thereby defining a national identity. It’s important to preserve our cultural heritage because it preserves our culture as a people.”

Solomon said that park staff will be available for guided tours and programs. He said that visitors will have a chance to take a two-mile round-trip hike to view the falls and park’s new suspension bridge.

“This event offers a chance to visit with skilled individuals displaying a  wealth of knowledge in their fields,” Solomon said. “These individuals are generational talents whether it’s a fourth-generation chair-caner or a third-generation musician, come out, sit, talk, and take the opportunity to learn their stories.”

Solomon said that the event will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. He said that ticket purchasing is not necessary, but donations will be accepted.
