Fentress County Commissioners approved a small expenditure this week for its future agriculture pavilion.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said Upland Design Group received the green light to begin drawing up plans for the facility.
“We have a gentleman that is going to do some preliminary drawings of what we need. The commission allowed us to pay him $1,200 to get those preliminary drawings set up,” Johnson said. “If that’s what the commission wants it to look like, then he will go in and do permanent drawing of it with materials and specs.”
The State Agriculture Department funded $150,000 for the purpose of constructing the AG pavilion. Fentress County U.T. Extension Office Director John Gunter said the project will be one of the largest ever for the office.
“There’s never been anything like this on this scale. I guess a few years back we remodeled and became more handicap accessible, so this is a monumental step in terms of that,” Gunter said. “We hope and think this facility will be something that our county can be really proud. We hope it will bring folks in from other places and put us on par with some of the better facilities in our region.”
The facility will include an arena for livestock, a large auditorium, and office space for extension personnel. The County donated 20-acres near the bypass for the purpose of constructing the new pavilion.
