Officials reported no major accidents or travel issues after light snow and sleet fell across the Upper Cumberland Tuesday.
Putnam County Emergency Management Agency Director Tyler Smith said road conditions will likely become worse Tuesday night.
“With the temperatures falling, were expecting some refreezing, especially bridges and overpasses,” Smith said. “They’re still saying that we could get some more snow this evening before tapering off and clearing out after midnight. But with temperatures in the lower 20’s, we will definitely see some icing.”
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported Tuesday evening that primary and secondary roads in Cumberland County were becoming slushy. THP also received reports about slushy secondary roads in Overton County.
“We would encourage drivers to slow down and use caution as the roads are wet in most areas,” THP Lieutenant Jason McGee said. “As the temperature drops they (roads) may become icy or snow covered this evening.”
Smith said temperatures will warm up to the mid 40’s Wednesday, but he said drivers should be aware of icy roads as they head our for their morning commutes.
“If you’re driving around tonight or the the morning just slow down and take precautions,” Smith said. “Especially watch those bridges and overpasses.”
A number of Upper Cumberland School systems dismissed students early Tuesday because of the weather conditions.
