The East Clay Volunteer Fire Department is excited to invite people to their Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser on Saturday.
Finance Manager Larry Shell said in addition to the fish fry, there will also be a live auction with many of the items donated by community members. Shell said that the fire department relies on this kind of generosity from supporters so it can keep running in good condition.
“We have a nice community, we have a nice fire department, and people have to know it takes money to make a fire department work,” Shell said. “Since everybody is doing it as a volunteer situation, the donations are what the fire department lives on.”
Shell said people can expect all you can eat fish, fries, slaw, homemade desserts and homemade hush puppies, plus a chance to great prizes in their auction.
“The fish is excellent the fish is the best you’ll eat anywhere and we’ll have a live auction that night,” Shell said. “We have about 18 to 20 items right now from guns to quilts to heaters to books, knives–there’s a little bit of everything.”
Shell said the funds are used to update equipment, train new firefighters, and for other things that allow the fire department to keep the whole community.
The fish fry dinner will begin at 5 p.m., and the live auction will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20.
