An air conditioner leak at Doyle Elementary could put home basketball games in jeopardy.
Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said that only a portion of the gym floor was damaged, so gym class can still go on. Dronebarger said that luckily there are other gyms available within the system that can be used while repairs are done.
“We had a failure of a part that would alarm us that we had some water overflow from one of our air conditioning units,” Dronebarger said. “Unfortunately that created a leakage on the gym floor. So that floor is going to have to undergo some repairs.”
Dronebarger said the gym at the old Findlay Elementary School is one option within the district to host basketball games. He said the air conditioning company has taken responsibility for the leak and will be covering the repair costs.
“We had to deal with that during last year’s problems with the floor,” Dronebarger said. “So we’ve got other gymnasiums and we can shuffle folks around and still make that happen. So school will continue, basketball will continue but we might just have to work around some repairs in the mean time.”
Dronebarger said there is not a timeline yet to complete the floor repairs. He said that during last contact with the company who will repair the floor, they were assessing the damages.
