Dogwood Park Bridge Bid Could Be Rejected

Cookeville officials will consider rejecting a bid for a project installing a pedestrian bridge in Dogwood Park.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the lone proposal from Adams Contracting in Kentucky didn’t meet their specifications.

“We were asking that they provide us with precast abutments that would be delivered and lifted into place by a crane,” Woods said. “At the same time, the bridge would be set… They were going to provide the abutments, but they were going to cast them on site adjacent to the location and we don’t really have the location to do that.”

Woods said the department did receive an additional bid, but it was sent back because it was late.

“We did have another company that intended to respond,” Woods said.  “We didn’t open it, we sent it back. So we know there are other companies that are interested. They just had a difficulty with FedEx, according to them.”

Officials discussed the possibility of reevaluating the project altogether during Monday’s work session.

Cookeville City Council will vote Thursday on whether they should reject the proposal from Adams Contracting.
