DeKalb County’s Recovery Court will be one of 12 recovery courts featured in a new Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services video series.
Coordinator Kate Arnold said that the video highlighted how DeKalb was able to operate during COVID to ensure the needs of its clients were still being met in a pandemic. She said that she thinks it is the heart and dedication of the staff that helps it stand out among the rest.
“I think with them coming each week and being so dedicated and volunteering their time, the participants are the ones who benefit from it,” Arnold said. “You see the outcomes, you see lives changing, yous ee generational changing in their lives, and it’s just really awesome to see.”
Arnold said that it’s important to showcase the work recovery courts do because there is so much hope in the work. She said that recovery court gives people an alternative to jail or probation.
Arnold said it helps people get treatment, counseling, and support instead of putting them in the penal system. She said that every person deserves the opportunity to turn their lives around.
“Our sign says ‘Recovery Court in DeKalb County: Where Accountability Meets Compassion,'” Arnold said.
Arnold said that the video is live right now on the state’s website. She said that visitors to the website can see all the videos that introduce viewers to the people who make up the system from Coordinators like her, to judges, to counselors, to participants.
