Data Suggests TTU Is Not A Suitcase Campus

Is Tennessee Tech a suitcase campus?

It means that the majority of students live in close proximity and travel home for the weekend. Student Engagement Assistant Vice-President Ben Stubbs said he would argue that it is more of a myth than a reality for the university.

“I’d point to a survey that was conducted last year,” Stubbs said. “We found of the students living in the resident halls 85 percent of them stayed on campus either every weekend or every other weekend. I think the data tells us that most students engage with the university.”

Stubbs said over the past few years, the university has incorporated new opportunities to keep students engaged. Stubbs said students can take part in an outdoor program that takes students kayaking or rock climbing as well as participating in student groups.

Stubbs said lots of students stay on campus for studying reasons as wells.

Stubbs said recently, there has also been an increase of upperclassmen living in university housing. Stubbs said the trend of students living off-campus as junior and seniors is not as pronounced as it once was.
