Cycle Shop Constructing Bike Park In Crossville

A Crossville bike shop is building a seven-mile bike park at Cumberland Mountain State Park.

Hurricane Cycles Owner Andrew Ingram said the project is a way to give back to the community.

“I’m doing most of the work myself, but I also organize volunteer days,” Ingram said. “We have also received grant money and private donations, but every dollar spent at Hurricane Cycles goes towards these community promotion activities such as the bike park.”

Ingram said the new trails will be an extension to the 1.5 mile Alley Cat Trail that opened about two years ago.

“They’ve gotten so much positive feedback and use from that small trail, that we’ve revamped our ideas and are now building a bike park system,” Ingram said. “We will offer something for everyone once this project is complete.”

Ingram said the park is being designed for all skill levels and should have a positive economic impact on Crossville.

“There are all kinds of economic case studies to show just how powerful it is when cities embrace mountain biking and bring trails on,” Ingram said. “I think as this grows, we can turn it into more of a public revenue stream that can only benefit the entire community.”

Construction on the Cumberland Mountain Bike Park just got underway and a grand opening date has not been announced. Ingram presented the project to Crossville City Council members on Tuesday.
