Cup and Saucer Building Needs More Renovations

Renovations on the former Monterey Cup and Saucer building will take longer than first expected.

That according to new owner David Louis Caratachea.

“We expected something easy but you know there was so much here, so we decided we are going to renovate the whole thing,” Caratachea said. “[We are] going to tear everything apart, so we are going to do everything, basically. And we expected to done right quick but it’s taking longer than we thought.”

Caratachea bought the building in April to place a Los Agaves Mexican Restaurant in Monterey. Caratachea said he did not intend to completely remodel the building at first.

“Well, in the beginning, we just thought it was going to be a matter of replacing the drop ceiling or a wall or two,” Caratachea said. “But when we started we noticed that the whole thing needs to be redone. That’s what we are going to do, we are going to make it basically all new.”

Los Agaves is currently located in Lafayette and Whitehouse, as well as multiple locations in Kentucky.

“On the inside, we are going to put like decorative tile around the walls, hardwood below, we are going to tile the whole building,” Caratachea said. “The restrooms we are going to redo the whole restrooms, put tile on the walls all the way up. It is going to be a whole new project.”

Caratachea said the restaurant will have a stone and brick facade. Caratachea said he hopes to have renovations complete in three months.
