Two Cumberland County students face charges for allegedly plotting a school shooting.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested the sixth-graders on Friday for charges of conspiracy to commit murder. Both students remain in custody awaiting a hearing in juvenile court.
The investigation began after an SRO at South Cumberland Elementary uncovered a rumor about a hit list containing students to be shot in a future school shooting. According to a CCSO press release, the investigation did not reveal a hit list but did locate a hand-drawn map of the school and a plot between the students to conduct the shooting on the last day of school.
The students allegedly planned to hide weapons in the locker room, enter through the back door, and shoot faculty and students before committing suicide. The investigation also revealed multiple conversations between the students in the past two weeks in preparing the plot.
Investigators from the sheriff’s office searched both student’s homes and found no weapons.
