Cumberland County Animal Shelter Needs Community Help

Cumberland County Animal Shelter is seeking donations to help care for the many pets at the shelter.

Shelter Employee Mia Rees said that they are currently collecting several items to help continue with the care of their very full shelter.

“We are currently collecting cat and dog food as usual,” Rees said. “Wet and dry. We go through a lot of paper towels, splashless bleach, washcloths, anything of that nature.”

Rees said that while it can be difficult to rely so heavily on donations, the shelter staff wants to take care of the animals like their own. She said that donations from those in the community are absolutely essential in the operations of the shelter.

“We have donations with Walmart hat gives us their open bags and such,” Rees said. “But we are still purchasing 10 to 15 bags of dog food a week in order to try and keep up.”

Rees said that for those who want to donate, there are several ways. She said that anything people are to help the shelter out with goes a long way.

“Amazon wishlist is posted on our Facebook page, it’s also posted on the county’s website,” Rees said. “We also are available for drop-off donations in case anyone wants to donate in-person during normal business hours.”

The Cumberland County Animal Shelter can be reached at (931) 484-8525. Normal business hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shelter is closed on Sunday and Wednesday.
