Cumberland County will seek out state funding to help extend water lines to an unserved area.
County Mayor Allen Foster said the county commission has voted to apply for a Community Development Block Grant.
“I believe there were a little less than 30 homes down in the southern portion of our county that are really in need of clean drinking water,” Foster said. “The county commission has unanimously approved applying for that grant.”
If awarded the grant, water lines would be extended to Old Highway 28 and East Valley Road.
Foster said South Cumberland Utility District has agreed to provide matching funds for the grant and any additional money needed for the project.
Cumberland County applied for the same grant last year, but did not score high enough to receive the grant.
