Cumberland Animal Shelter Exceeds Fundraising Goal For Beds

The Cumberland County Animal Shelter has exceeded its fundraising goal to get dogs new beds.

Director Andrea Gaskins said $780 was the goal but over $900 was raised, allowing for two extra beds and toppers to be purchased. Gaskins said the 15 new beds will be raised off the floor, keeping dogs warmer and healthier.

“Just that alone improves their quality of life a lot,” Gaskins said. “We used to use blankets and things like that, and we still do sometimes on top of the beds. But being able to have those beds raised off the floor keeps the dog healthier, keeps them more comfortable. Less problems with ringworm and things like that. SO it’s a huge difference.”

Gaskins said if dogs end up being kept on a bed touching the floor, it can draw moisture into the bed. Gaskins said there is a constant need for dog beds, going through one to two a month from dogs destroying them.

She said this fundraising was possible through a successful partnership with the non-profit Animal Rescue Aid.
