The City of Crossville may move forward with the non-contiguous annexation of Meadow Park Lake.
City Manager Greg Wood said he’s asking the Crossville Planning Commission to consider the proposal.
“The genesis of this whole thing is really from the lake commission. As far as being able to enforce city ordinances at Meadow Park Lake, they can’t,” Wood said. “They’ve had some issues out there with people having dogs of leads, and I guess some issues with homeless folks and other things.”
Planning Commissioners have agreed to discuss the matter during their December meeting. Crossville owns Meadow Park Lake, but it’s located in the city’s urban growth boundary and not within existing city limits.
Crossville Local Planner Kevin Dean said a non-contiguous annexation requires inter-local agreements for road and emergency services.
“That could go either way,” Dean said. “The county fire and sheriff’s department could say, ‘No big deal, we’re going to take care of it ourselves.’ Or they could say, ‘No, since you’re doing a non-contiguous annexation, we want police and fire from the city to maintain the emergency services for that area.’ We’ve not talked to them.”
Mayor James Mayberry said last week that the city would waste time and money by proceeding with the plan.
“I think everything’s fine the way it is,” Mayberry said. “Personally, I see no need in spending extra money, time, and manpower in moving forward with this.”
The Crossville Planning Commission will discuss the proposal December 19 at 12:00 p.m.
