City of Crossville set to spend a budgeted $80,000 on new gear for the fire department.
Fire Chief Chris South said they will purchase 20 sets of turnout gear. He said it will include both lightweight gear and structural firefighting gear.
“Obviously with our line of work, the gear is exposed to the products of fire on a regular basis,” South said. “So being able to exchange it out on a five-year plan, it keeps our firefighters in the best gear they can wear and the safety is utmost for that.”
South said the city council approved the department to order the gear within the next 10 days. He said according to the sale rep, the gear could take as long as 20 weeks to arrive.
South said the purchase will be made through a cooperative purchasing agreement. He said this is a great process and they are proud the city has been supportive of the department.
