Crossville Approves Upland Design Group For Rec Center Architectural Services

Crossville City Council approved Upland Design Group for architectural and design services for the city’s recreation center.

City Manager Greg Wood said that one of his biggest wants was to find a group that was familiar with the topography of Crossville.

“The big thing about Crossville is of course we’re on the plateau and the plateau is a rock, and you can hit rock anywhere from one foot to five feet around here when you’re constructing something so you had to have somebody that’s familiar with that geographic or geological formation around here and knows how to deal with them.”

Wood said that the next step will be to execute a contract with the group. He said that then the city and architects will work together on design scenarios such as layouts for the facility and the potential phasing of the work.

“We’ll want a design that can be added on to without a lot of trouble,” Wood said. “And there’s more than just Uplands Design involved. When you get into an aquatics facility, you want an aquatics specialist, so we have those folks teaming up with them. Hopefully, that will make this seamless but a more complicated project.”

Wood said that they estimate the recreation center to total some $30 million.

“It’s a significant undertaking, but it is something that the council has been looking at for several years and desired to do and just everything aligned and they’ve gone forward with the project,” Wood said.
