COVID Closes Algood City Hall Lobby

COVID exposure inside Algood’s City Hall and rising cases in Putnam County forced the city hall lobby to close Tuesday.

Algood Mayor Lisa Chapman Fowler said that masks will be required to enter City Hall when it re-opens. Fowler said if residents maintain COVID precautions, it will benefit everyone.

‘I say I’m wearing mine to protect you, so why won’t you wear one to protect me?” Fowler said. ” I know that’s a big debate but if we would all try to social distance, and we would all try to wear a mask and wash our hands, I think it would have a great impact on our city and our county.”

Fowler said once the lobby can be deep cleaned and sanitized, she believes re-opening can occur. Fowler said that in the mean time, all resident services can be conducted over the phone, in the drive-thru and the city’s after hours drop box.

“We can still carry on business just as usual, permits, whatever you need,” Fowler said. “We’re just gonna close the lobby, until we can have everything sanitized and we feel safe about it, at that point we’ll re-open.”

Fowler said the city would like to see COVID cases go down around the area before re-opening, but said experts do not believe that will happen. Currently, the Algood City Hall drive-thru is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
