Cookeville History Museum’s Storyfest makes its return to Dogwood Park on Saturday, April 30th.
Museums Manager Beth Thompson said people can expect to hear folks tell stories from all genres, including fiction, personal anecdotes, and folktales.
“Everyone gets to hear these just incredible storytellers,” Thompson said. “And it’s something that we don’t often get a taste of. We’re the only storytelling festival within an hour’s drive, and we’re also the only free one.”
Thompson said that the best part of Storyfest is that not only is it free, but it can bring the community together. Thompson said that the event will also feature an amateur storyteller competition with people in the Cookeville community.
Thompson said another highlight will be Tim Lowry, who makes his return as a professional storyteller. Lowry will do two hours of performing, one hour from noon to 1 p.m., and one from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“He’ll tickle your funny bone, and he’ll make you cry a little bit,” Thompson said. “It’s always touching, and moving, but then you’ll end up just about falling out of your seat because Tim is so funny.”
Thompson said that the big tent in Dogwood Park is big enough to seat some 300 people, and it’s an event you don’t want to miss.
“People—including families with children, senior citizens and everyone in between—come and go constantly, enjoying the entertainment,” Thompson said. “This festival has always been a community project, and that aspect grows every year.”
