Cookeville Will Change Alignment In Front Of Broad Street Post Office

Cookeville City Council approved a resolution Thursday night allowing City Manager James Mills to change the alignment of parking spots in front of the Broad Street post office.

Mills said that he asked the new Public Works Director Blake Mayo to review the current nine-space alignment. Mills said turning the spots from angled to parallel would eliminate four parking spaces. However, the move would increase visibility and safety.

Vice Mayor Laurin Wheaton said that she was present when the young girl was struck by the truck on Saturday morning. She said that the way the incident happened, it could have happened to anyone.

“I appreciate the city taking a look at this and trying to make that area safer,” Wheaton said. “Because it is a very walked area.”
