The Cookeville Leisure Services Department will potentially relocate to the bottom of the Cookeville Performing Arts Center going forward.
City Manager James Mills said the move would make sense logistically for the department’s business.
“To put them with CPAC, where they have a lot of different activities, so that makes sense,” Mills said. “Some of the other personnel are already located in CPAC– including Chad McDonald who runs the CPAC facility and also oversees Dogwood Park, and that’s the other reason to move it over there, is it also being adjacent to Dogwood Park.”
Currently, the CPAC basement is home to the Cookeville Police Department. Mills said that once the police department moves to their new facility, potentially by the first of the new year, the city would do some minor remodeling for Leisure Services offices to move in.
“We budgeted some money this year to do some remodeling so that the Leisure Services facility’s offices could move into a small portion of where the police department’s headquarters are currently located,” Mills said.
Mills said that one long term goal is to do more extensive remodeling and renovations to expand for storage and also expand a space for use by CPAC. This would include things like dressing rooms for performers and other features for those who utilize CPAC.
Mills said Leisure Services has adequate space at their current location in the basement of city hall, but thinks the move will better facilitate the department’s many operations.
