Cookeville Sex Offender Arrested Near Creative Learning

A Cookeville man listed on the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry was arrested at his residence on Walnut Avenue early Friday morning.

The Putnam County Jail Roster lists 33-year-old Jimmy Joe Smith with one count of residential and work restriction. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested Smith at the Walnut Avenue address listed by the sex offender registry.

Evidence suggests Smith recently moved across the street from Creative Learning Child Care on the corner of Walnut Avenue and West Stevens Street. The sex offender registry indicates the address was updated Wednesday.

According to the registry, Smith is classified as being “violent against children.” One offense is listed against him from September 2017 for “indecent liberties with [a] minor.”

Smith is being held at the Putnam County Jail on $2,000 bond. Tennessee law states no registered sex offender shall knowingly establish a primary or secondary residence within 1,000 feet of a public school, park, playground, or licensed daycare.
