Cookeville PD Issuing New Gear To Officers

Cookeville Police Department set to issue new firearms to officers.

PIO Lieutenant Anthony Leonard said the department was looking to transition to new pistols with upgraded technology.

“By switching to the 9 mm pistol, this will make our officers gain compatibility with surrounding agencies,” Leonard said. “Along with the ability to mount a miniature electronic reflex sight. And the electronic reflex sight will actually allow our officers to remain focused on the threat with both of their eyes open.”

Leonard said the new gear was made possible by trading in the old pistols for the new. The old pistols were valued at some $315, with the new ones valued at around $471 each on a state bid.

Leonard said the goal is to get all 87 pistols issued over the next 30 days and to have all officers qualified with the new weapons.
