Cookeville Officer Finds 1.1 Pounds Of Pot During Traffic Stop

Cookeville Police located more than one pound of marijuana during a Tuesday traffic stop.

Officers charged 40-year-old Daniel R. Hensley of Knoxville with possession of a controlled substance.

The incident happened on Interstate 40 when Officer Joseph Williams pulled over a vehicle for a registration violation. Williams identified Hensley as the front seat passenger.

An arrest report said a trained K-9 alerted to a backpack at the feet of the defendant. Inside the backpack, Officer Williams found a vacuum sealed bag containing 1.1 pounds of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Williams arrested Hensley and transported him to the Putnam County Jail. He has already posted $5,000 bond.
