Cookeville Man Charged with Statutory Rape

Authorities arrested a Cookeville man Sunday for having sexual relations with a minor.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Christopher Swartz on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and statutory rape.

Arrest warrants state Swartz was initially pulled over during a traffic stop for a moving violation.

The arresting deputy noticed a 17-year-old female in the passenger seat and that Swartz’s pants were unzipped when he exited the vehicle.

A consent search of the teen’s cell phone revealed messages detailing sexual encounters between her and Swartz.

Swartz has since been released from the Putnam County Jail on $8,500 bond and must appear in court March 18th.
