Cookeville Man Charged After Vehicle Strikes, Kills Pedestrian

Putnam County authorities arrested a Cookeville man after his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian on Saturday.

The Cookeville Police Department identified the deceased as 49-year-old Sabastian Bartolome Miguel of Cookeville.

56-year-old Matthew Blanchard faces charges of DUI and reckless endangerment.

A press release said Blanchard’s Ford F-150 struck Miguel as he attempted to walk across North Willow Avenue from West Jere Whitson Street. Officials said Miguel died at the scene.

Police arrested Blanchard and transported him to the Putnam County Justice Center.

The crash remains under investigation. Police officials urged anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Cookeville Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Division.
