Cookeville Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault

Authorities arrested a Cookeville man Tuesday in connection with a January domestic incident.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office charged 71-one-year-old Jerry Mack Williams after he allegedly threatened a woman last month. Authorities had previously arrested him on Jan. 5 for domestic assault.

Bond conditions were lifted Jan. 9 allowing Williams to contact the victim.

According to arrest warrants, the victim told authorities Williams violently pulled her from bed by the arm on the day bond conditions were lifted.

Williams proceeded to strike the victim several times before the victim fled to the bathroom and attempted to call 911.

Warrants state Williams took the phone, threw it down, and threatened to kill her. Williams allegedly then grabbed the woman by the throat and began to strangle her until she  was able to escape.

Authorities observed that Williams was intoxicated that night, which also violated bond conditions.

Officials booked Williams into the Putnam County Jail on a $10,000 bond. Williams also faces charges of interfering with emergency calls and failing to appear in court.
