Cookeville Electric Addresses Willow Ave. Outage Wednesday

Cookeville Electric Department Customers experienced an outage Wednesday morning near Willow Avenue.

Director Carl Haney said customers may have seen their power blinking. He said there was a breaker experiencing issues that eventually led to an outage.

“We had to shut that down until we found the problem and got some equipment out there,” Haney said. “They’re regulators and they help regulate voltage. Two of those were damaged and we don’t know if it was weather-related or animal-related and the damage cause the wires to burn in two.”

Haney said the area affected is home to an estimated 1,000 customers. He said they were able to quickly resolve the issue and had it back and running within 30 minutes.

Haney said if there is an issue with power blinking or going out completely, residents do not need to fear an instance of a power surge. He said voltage may drop slightly and then go out completely
