Cookeville Crime Decreases Over Last Year

Crime in Cookeville decreased some 12.9 percent over the last year according to the TBI’s Crime In Tennessee report.

The number of offenses reported dropped from 4,108 in 2018 to 3,574 last year. Cookeville arrests fell from 2,450 to 2,076.

The biggest areas of decrease according to the TBI date came in credit card/ATM fraud arrests, down from 170 in 2018 to 77 in 2019. Shoplifting arrests decreased from 180 in 2019 from 325 the prior year. Drug narcotic arrests fell from 649 to 508. Burglaries in Cookeville decreased from 195 in 2019 to 140 in 2018.

Simple assaults increased. So did the number of forceable rapes. Liquor law violations also increased.

The TBI report compiles reports from all law enforcement across the state. It is based on data through May 9, 2020.
