Cookeville City Council voted Thursday to begin the process of designing a new Dogwood Park entrance.
Leisure Service Director Rick Woods said the expansion will give the park an entryway connecting it to Walnut Avenue. Woods said the department received three proposals, eventually choosing Kimley-Horn. Woods said the design phase would begin December 1.
“That’s not to exceed $145,000,” Woods said. “In my conversations with Kimley-Horn, they’re comfortable with that. They’re comfortable with the timeframe which would have the design process completed by the end of April.”
The project would use areas between the park and Walnut Avenue to create a better entranceway to the park from Cookeville’s West Side. Council members expressed some concerns about losing parking with the renovations.
Woods said the project’s construction would be budgeted in the next fiscal year. Woods said the department projected some $2.5 million for the project early on, making this a very reasonable fee.
City Manager James Mills said some $100,000 was budgeted for the design phase this year, so anything exceeding that will be budgeted next year.
In other business, the council voted to purchase three 15 KVA conventional transformers and one 1,000 KVA pad transformer for the Electric Department. The council also voted to purchase two pickup trucks for the Public Works Department.
