Construction has started on country singer Aaron Tippin’s warbird restoration hangar.
Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Manager Dean Selby said Chattanooga-based Cagle Development began the work a few weeks ago.
“The site prep work is complete. They are digging the foundations now and should be pouring the foundations by the end of this week,” Selby said. “The steel for the building isn’t here, but the steel and anchor bolts for the slab are here and they should be pouring that this week.”
The airport has received an $880,000 economic development grant to conduct the project. Selby said Tippin will lease the hangar to operate TN Flying Machines, a business that restores vintage military aircraft.
“[Aaron Tippin] has been really great to work with and we are looking forward to having them here,” Selby said.
The airport will use Tippin’s lease contribution to pay for the local grant match. The construction of the new hangar should be finished by this spring.
