Construction Bid Awarded For Tippin Airport Hangar

The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board approved a construction bid for a new hangar Tuesday.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said Chattanooga-based Cagle Development submitted the $774,000 low bid for the project.

“Hopefully they can get started in a couple of weeks, as soon as they get the contracts together,” Selby said. “If we can be done by April of next year that’s kind of what we are shooting for. That gives us plenty of leeway if we have weather or something.”

The state gave the airport $880,000 to conduct the project. Selby said Aaron Tippin will lease the hangar for his business, TN Flying Machines.

“This hanger is an economic development grant that was awarded to this airport for us to build a hangar for Tennessee Flying Machines to do warbird restoration,” Selby said. “[Aaron Tippin] has been really great to work with and we are looking forward to having them here.”

The airport will use Tippin’s lease contribution to pay for the local grant match. The airport will be required to complete the project within two years.
